PIKITUP set an initiative to get all people from Gauteng helping out to clean up the city. Something very similar to the global parkour/freerunning community's "Leave-No-Trace" program which has been succesfully running for many years. (For more info on our Leave-No-Trace project CLICK HERE)

We then set the challenge open to all Parkour South Africa members across the country to lend a hand on Saturday the 6th of June to head to their nearest public training area, and clean up all the rubbish. After which, we would then run a brief training session on our newly cleaned up urban playgrounds!! :-)

PKSA member, Dyllon, registered the Randburg CBD site with pikitup which resulted in the group being provided with gloves and bin bags, of which they used up 13 bags and went through all the gloves!

PKSA member, Wes, ran the Pretoria team and resulted in the guys there picking up some of the weirdest items (car cam belts, oil filters,beer bottles and even some highly sought after ball bearings oddly enough - which were eventually awarded as a prize later on in the day...). At least they got the green scented bags with handles...haha

Without fail, each team that went out to clean up were constantly rewarded by passers-by with encouraging words, a shake of the hand and a hearty smile. We were even joined by a number of inspired strangers who asked for gloves and a bag, and climbed in to help out. High heel shoes and all!! Needless to say, that by the end we were no longer strangers as we all had shared in a feel-good experience which was very rewarding in itself.
