Jump Westminster - Parkour Documentary
Posted by
DC at 17:28

Having recently been unveiled on the 14th May 2007 at the I.C.A London (Institute of Contemporary Arts), Jump Westminster is now available online for everyone to view.

Click the link to view the documentary (28min)

A worthy contender to follow-on from where the famous Jump London and Jump Britain programs left us, although this documentary is not officially linked with any of the previous "Jump" programs. (However there is a small link through Stephane Vigroux, who can be briefly seen in both Jump Westminster & Jump London)

Film Description by Julie Angel (Director/Camera/Editor):
"Jump Westminster highlights the development of Parkour as an activity to engage and encouarge children to be physically active. Featuring Forrest, Dan Edwardes and Stephane Vigroux of Parkour Coaching in association with Westminster Council's "Positive Futures" Team, parkour is used to teach the young people about respect, discipline and how to look at their environment differently."

An extract from
Parkour Coaching:
"Filmed by Parkour Coaching's very own Julie Angel, in conjunction with Westminster Sports Unit, the film explores the impact of teaching Parkour both in schools and in local community centres to young children in the Westminster area of London."

Canadian Traceurs + Canadian Winters = White Parkour Film
Posted by
DC at 14:03

Now although South Africa does not have the extremes winters Canada has, the message in this project should surely inspire each and every traceur to take their training more seriously and not to be disheartened simply by "bad" weather, but rather inspired and motivated.

Well done to the team who are making this not-for-profit project work and we look forward to seeing the final result in full.

"
WHITE is a DVD quality short film that captures the dedication of a small group of Canadian traceurs as they struggle to increase their speed, power and grace all while attempting to become comfortable operating in the harsh environment of our Canadian winters.

The WHITE team captured footage of winter parkour conditionning and skills training during 30+ shoots Jan-April 2007 in the hopes of encouraging traceurs everywhere to expand their PK training to include dealing with the elements of winter in all her fury:

* Deep Snow
* Poor Visibility
* Slippery Ice
* High Winds
* Extreme Cold
* Freezing Water Hazards

Yamakasi in London, UK on Sunday 13th May 2007
Posted by
DC at 06:23

For those who know Yamakasi, you'll know this will be a special training session. For the rest who don't know them ... shame on you! (but fear not, I have some links where you can get the low-down) ;-P

Yamakasi have their history in Parkour due to the fact that both David Belle and Sebastien Foucan were in this group in the early days, but left due to differences of opinion. Yet Yamakasi carried on...

In 2001 they appeared in a film written by Luc Besson simply entitled - "Yamakasi - Les samourai des temps modernes"(the modern-day Samurai) and then later on in 2004 went on to be featured in the feature film: "Les Fils du Vent", which was directed by Julien Seri who also worked on the Yamakasi film with Luc Besson.

Yamakasi (wikipedia link) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamakasi

Now for the news:
This weekend Yamakasi will be heading over to London, UK as guest trainers for an event organised by Parkour Coaching.

Yamakasi, Johann Vigroux and Kazuma are coming over to join myself (Dan), Stephane, Forrest and Tracey for the inaugural Parkour Coaching Seminar in London. Will be from 1-4pm, cost £10 per head, and is limited to 100 places. Will not be a relaxed 'jam' session, but 3 hours of non-stop intensive workshops. Anyone wanting to book a place can email me at this address dan@parkourcoaching.com - first come, first served, payment in advance to secure a position.

The majority of the spaces will go to our Academy community, but we will keep some open for the wider London community.

It will be the first time the Yamakasi have ever taught in England, and should be an excellent day out.
"

So far I already know that members from Team Traceur, The Saiyan Clan, Sin Clan, Next Gen will be there to soak up the knowledge these guys have picked up over the years.

JUMP LONDON DVD - Re Released!!!
Posted by
DC at 14:38
I bought my copy of Jump London on DVD here in the UK not long after it was released in the shops. Paid a whopping £20 (R220 at the time) in the CREWE Virgin Megastore for it.

I noticed how the internet prices dramatically dropped as shops were trying to get rid of the last few batches of slow moving stock. Even as low as £6 (Around R72 at one time).

Then it happened...parkour had only really begun to start becoming more and more popular around the globe, the Jump Britain DVD arrived on the shelves and people wanted to buy Jump London with it (as suggested by Amazon's "people who bought Jump Britain also bought Jump London". But there weren't any in stock!!

Not a single one available in store or anywhere online ... except ebay, Amazon second hand and the likes. That's when I saw it sell for prices as high as £75 (over R1050!!!!! for ONE single copy)

CLICK HERE TO SEE A SCREENSHOT OF JUMP LONDON FOR £74.99

Well, for about a year now I've been trying to get my hands on a few more copies of Jump London DVD for friends and family. Trying desperately to outbid people on ebay, and once even been offered the dvd cover graphics and download link by one eager seller for a mere 99 pence.

"Erm, sorry pal! I don't support Pirated DVD's. By the way, expect a call from eBay. Oh, and your account might be locked in a few days so make the most of it while you can.;-)"

But, alas, my struggles are over. Mike Christie, Director of Jump London, announced on his website:

"Jump London - The official DVD release, featuring the "Making of" documentary, additional angles on jumps, and director / producer commentary on Jump, is being re-released in July 2007 by Channel 4"

So, don't go paying stupid prices for it! hang in there and you should be able to grab a copy for the normal prices.

Jin (Team Traceur) Sponsored Cat Crawl
Posted by
DC at 12:17

My fellow teammate, Jin, is doing a sponsored Cat Crawl for a charity which provides medical aid to the Niger Delta.

Here follows his appeal for sponsrship, no matter how small.

"Please can people sponsor me!

http://www.justgiving.com/crawl

Im doing a 2 mile cat crawl on the 10th of August in Cambridge to raise money for New Foundations:
http://www.newfoundations.org.uk/Group/Group.aspx?id=10814

I really appreciated everyone sponsoring me and Owen for the 10k last year, and so call on the generosity of the parkour community once again to help this cause!

I will get pictures taken on the day and post them to show the crawl itself.

Donate:

Thanks everyone!"
