(Who called the French Mafia?)

All guys in the PKSA community are invited to join in the month of November, by growing a moustache to raise awareness for all male related illnesses.

Read up on my blog to see what last year looked like and a little more insight into that madness that is: MOVEMBER: http://danegrant.blogspot.com/2008/11/movember.html

Parkour / Freerunning Banned in Moreton

For those who might not already have seen the official notice from the council on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=112150254429), there has been a ban on all parkour related activities in the UK council of moreton, where, amongst many other freerunners, Daniel Ilabaca is from.

As far as I am aware, this is the first written notice I have seen in the UK, although parkour signage has been posted up in the USA a number of years back already, as seen below:

However, the guys are doing their best to get the council to overturn it with a number of meetings taking place, and tremendous public support. Follow the action on the council's website: http://chrisblakeley.com/2009/07/22/council-and-police-take-action-on-freerunners-in-moreton/

Apparently, the issue is not necessarily with THEM training in the open, as much as it is about the rogue crews who use the movement to get up to impossible places and graffiti as well as to climb up onto rooftops and just mess about and not for training purposes.

There have been reports of damaging property and typical anti-social behaviour towards the public.

UK morning TV reported on the situation a short while back where a lot of support for Parkour was drummed up:

Already we are seeing parkour-related graffiti popping up in Jozi. How much longer before parkour is banned in some areas within South Africa?

Letter to Freerunners from Dan Millman (Way of the peaceful warrior)

Dan Millman: Author of Way of the Peaceful Warrior and Journey of the Peaceful Warrior (Video Trailor here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6770941457560349256#)

This letter was taken from the Wfpf website, and is a letter to all freerunners and traceurs out there:

"

Greetings athletes of the WFPF and all those involved in Parkour and Free Running. Back when I was a gymnast, I didn't realize that my fellow acrobats and I were building foundations for the beautiful and dynamic art you practice.

I remember jumping on the trampoline in the main gymnasium, and looking up at the balcony above which had metal railing, wondering if I could jump high enough to land in a handstand up on the railing. (Turned out I could, and I did — every chance I had.) Or running and diving over the railing at the Santa Monica pier — about a 20-25 foot drop, not to the water, but to the sand.

We had to figure out how to do a flying somersault and land softly enough so that we didn't break anything. Sound familiar? Most "normal" earth-bound people don't think like that! But we do.

Now that I'm getting on in years, beyond a little play in the park, on my backyard trampoline, or the occasional Parkour class at a local gym, my skills are more modest. But I will never cease to delight in watching the skills you have evolved and demonstrate with such class!

Stay strong, stay smart, run smooth, and good journeys,
Dan
